Volunteers & parents/guardians/carers want to be able to capture moments and activities through photographs. In accordance with international best practice, BADRA does not advocate the banning of photography but recommends that it is subject to appropriate and proportionate safeguards being in place to ensure a safe environment for children and young people under the age of 18 (known here as a minor) engaged in BADARA activities. To ensure that all necessary steps are taken to protect children and young people from the inappropriate use of their images in connection with any BADRA publications, website and elsewhere. We have put a simple easy to follow policy in place.
Internationally there has been concerns about the risks posed directly and indirectly to children and young people through the use of photographs on websites and other publications. Photographs can be used as a means of identifying children when they are accompanied with personal information such as – this is X who lives at y, is a member of z and who likes a certain music group. This information can make a child vulnerable to an individual who may wish to start to “groom” that child for abuse. Secondly, the content of the photo can be used or adapted for inappropriate use.
So in accordance with establishing a sensible and simple photography policy, BADRA operates the following policy on its website regarding the use of photographs,
Where a minor is named, i.e. for a prize etc, only their first names are given
Where a minor is named, no photograph of that minor is displayed ever!
Where a photograph is used which shows a minor, no name is displayed ever!
Only use images of minors in a suitable dress attire!
By observing these points, BADRA ensures that visitors to the website cannot link images of a minor to a minors name.
* When attending any BADRA event, BADRA follows a policy of permission GIVEN for images to be taken and displayed on the website. However should any parent/guardian/carer wish for their child/children to be excluded, please make this known to a BADRA event committee member.
No other private information about minors is/should ever be published on the website such as surnames or contact details.
